Reports To: Creative Director & Operations Manager Job Summary: A Pattern drafter at MARVEE is responsible for translating / interpreting design sketches from the creative team into wearable garments. This role requires meticulous attention to detail, creativity, and a profound understanding of garment construction to ensure each piece meets the high standards of haute couture. Key Responsibilities: Interpret Sketches: Transform designer's sketches into flat patterns, ensuring the vision is captured accurately in terms of fit, style, and detail. Pattern Development: Create first patterns and toiles (muslins) for fitting, adjusting patterns based on feedback from fittings to achieve perfect fit and silhouette. Prototyping: Oversee the creation of prototypes, ensuring each piece aligns with the brand’s quality standards. Grading: Adapt patterns to various sizes while maintaining the intended fit and proportions. Marker Making: Efficiently lay out patterns for cutting to minimize fabric waste, crucial in haute couture where materials are often exclusive and expensive. Collaboration: Work closely with designers, seamstresses, and tailors to refine patterns and solve construction problems. Technical Documentation: Maintain detailed documentation of patterns, including any alterations, for future reference and production consistency. Innovation: Stay updated with the latest techniques in pattern making, including digital tools, while preserving traditional haute couture methods. Qualifications: Education: A degree in Fashion Design, Pattern Making, or a related field is preferred. Experience: Minimum of 3 years in pattern making, with at least 2 years in haute couture or luxury fashion. Proven experience with complex garment construction, particularly for women's wear. Skills: Exceptional understanding of garment fit, balance, and drape. Proficiency in both manual and digital pattern making tools (e.g., CAD systems like Lectra, Gerber, or TUKAcad). Strong mathematical skills for grading and pattern adjustments. Excellent problem-solving abilities, especially in tailoring and fit issues. Precision in measurement and detail orientation. Deep understanding of both the human form and fabric behaviour Soft Skills: Excellent communication skills to collaborate effectively within a creative team. Ability to work under pressure while meeting tight deadlines without compromising quality. Creative stamina Creative thinking to offer innovative solutions to design challenges. Additional Requirements: Portfolio: Candidates must provide a portfolio showcasing previous work, preferably including bespoke or couture pieces. Cultural Fit: Must align with the brand’s vision of luxury, uniqueness, and attention to detail. Working Conditions: Full time, Studio-based with possible travel for fittings, shows, or fabric sourcing. May require extended hours during peak seasons like fashion weeks or collection launches.
