Operate sewing machines safely and correctly to produce garments. Sew garment parts together such as fronts, backs, sleeves, collars, pockets, waistbands, and other components. Follow patterns, sewing instructions, and production specifications provided by the pattern cutter or supervisor. Maintain accurate stitching by ensuring seams, hems, and other details are properly sewn. Check the quality of work while sewing and correct mistakes when necessary. Handle fabrics carefully to prevent stains, damage, stretching, or incorrect sewing. Carry out basic machine maintenance, such as cleaning, oiling, changing needles, and reporting machine faults. Meet production targets and deadlines while maintaining good quality. Work with other production staff, including cutters, finishers, pattern makers, and supervisors. Keep the sewing area clean and organised and return tools and materials after use. Report production problems such as fabric defects, incorrect cutting, missing pieces, or machine problems to the supervisor. Follow company rules and safety procedures at all times. Requirements Basic knowledge of garment construction and sewing. Ability to operate an industrial sewing machine. Ability to read and follow simple sewing instructions. Good hand-eye coordination and attention to detail. Ability to work neatly and meet production deadlines. Willingness to learn and improve sewing skills. Previous experience in a fashion house or garment factory is an advantage. Performance Expectations The Sewing Machinist is expected to: Produce neat and accurate sewing work.
