Film Extruder Operator

JOB SUMMARY The Film Extruder Operator sets up, runs, and monitors blown film extrusion machines that melt recycled LDPE/HDPE plastic and blow it into thin film rolls for shopping bag production. Key duties include monitoring bubble stability, checking film thickness, and fixing basic machine problems to ensure consistent quality, minimal waste, and daily production targets are met. ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES • Machine Operation: Starts up and shuts down extrusion lines, loads plastic resin/recycled pellets, and sets temperatures, screw speeds, and air pressure • Monitors bubble stability throughout the run and adjusts machine settings as needed to maintain a consistent film bubble • Quality Control: Checks film thickness, width, and appearance regularly using tools such as micrometers or gauges • Conducts quality checks on film clarity and strength, and keeps proper records of rolls and materials mixed • Troubleshooting: Fixes bubble tears, wrinkles, or blocked lines quickly to reduce waste, and reports major breakdowns to the maintenance team, following up until resolved • Maintenance: Cleans dies, rollers, and filters, and performs daily safety checks on moving parts • Ensures proper cooling, winding, and cutting of film rolls • Avoids waste during production and completes daily production and downtime reports • Maintains cleanliness and safety of the work area and follows HSE procedures • Must be familiar with basic machine function in order to perform the tasks stated above • Adheres to safety and PPE requirements at all times • Required to clock in attendance daily and be properly dressed in uniform as provided by the company ADDITIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES • When requested, may work on special projects and various related assignments • May be required to work in various areas of production
